Frequently Asked Questions

Do you shoot digitally?

I shoot with a full frame mirrorless digital camera. The camera raw files I capture get converted to JPEGs in editing. But I have been experimenting with analog film and hope to incorporate it into packages in the future.

How many photos should I expect to get back?

I adhere to a philosophy that sets me apart: the art of "overshooting." I believe in capturing your most treasured moments with precision and depth, ensuring every glance, smile, and tear is immortalized in the frame. With a dedication to detail, I pride myself on photographing important moments with a high number of frames per minute.

Through my meticulous approach, I shoot an average of 1000 raw images per hour. This extensive collection is then carefully curated, selecting the most ideal facial reactions and sharpest images to translate into the final album. My process results in average final selection of 60-120 photos per hour (but not limited to). Ensuring that each image encapsulates the essence of your special day. For instance, a typical 8-hour wedding could yield 960 final images.

Do you provide retouching, colour adjustments, or other editing services?

Included in every package is photo colour grading and light retouching. See something in your photo delivery you would like changed? Feel free to reach out, I would be happy to accommodate you.

Can we request a list of specific shots we would like?

Absolutely! For weddings I send out a preliminary questionnaire that includes a shot checklist. You can also add any additional requests you would like.

How long after the wedding will we receive the images and how will they be delivered?

You will receive sneak peek images within 72 hours of the day. Full album delivery is typically 2-4 weeks for engagements/elopements and 6-10 weeks for a longer wedding day. It depends on how many hours was shot and how busy the season is. I put time and effort into each collection, and polished albums require time. Once the collection is ready, you will be sent info on how to view and download your online gallery.

Why does your photo editing take more time than some other photographers?

Other photographers may use "batch editing," which lets them apply the same edits to all photos at once, speeding up the editing process for faster delivery. I start by batch editing my albums to create a consistent look, ensuring every photo aligns with the overall style. However, I also individually edit every photo. This careful approach lets me improve details, fix lighting issues, and bring out genuine expressions. By taking the time for each image, I make sure every photo reflects the essence of the day, resulting in a polished and meaningful representation of the couple's story.

How much of a deposit do you require and when is it due?

There is 25% deposit due upon booking to hold your shooting date. The other 75% is due when the photo collection is ready for online delivery.

Why the name “Retro Radiance”?

It embodies a profound love for a retro aesthetic, guiding my artistic vision. Retro Radiance symbolizes the blend of nostalgic charm and timeless beauty. My commitment is to create captivating images that merge classic glamour with contemporary sophistication. My motto, "Vintage style, modern elegance," highlights my dedication to capturing the radiance of both past and present. Your photo album will be a cherished piece of art for generations.

Why did you choose wedding photography?

I adore all the unique romance, glamour, and storytelling that I get to capture on wedding days.

How would you describe your photography style?

My style is ‘elevated photojournalism,’ blending candid moments with sophisticated editorial imagery. I utilize natural light for true-to-life photos and diffused flash in low light to maintain a natural feel. Effects like bokeh and dreamy lens flares enrich my work, inspired by nature and vintage settings for an enchanting, nostalgic vibe. I provide light, curated direction during sessions to capture genuine portraits reflecting my clients' unique personalities, focusing on authentic human connections.

How does the ‘4 hours Assistant Photography Coverage Add-On’ work?

You can add-on an assistant photographer to any wedding package. Typically clients will request this when they want additional coverage of getting ready, the ceremony and cocktail hour on the wedding day, but that’s up to you! When you inquire about the assistant add-on I reach out to my team to confirm availability for your wedding date. If they are available, they will be shooting alternate angles and spaces distinct from my own coverage. After the day, they send me their raw photos and I edit all of our photos into one final album.

Do I pay the assistant photographer separately?

No, you pay for the full package through me. The assistant photographer later invoices me and I pay them directly.

Do you charge a travel fee?

The Ottawa/Gatineau area is free. Travel fees based on kilometres start to apply outside of city limits.

Do you carry backup equipment?

I always carry a backup camera and lenses. So in the unlikely event of a main camera failure, I can continue shooting without skipping a beat.

What is the backup plan if you are unable to photograph my wedding for an unexpected reason?

This has never happened, but in the unfortunate event that it did, I have many talented peers I could reach out to cover for me.

We are not accustomed to being in front of the camera. Will you help pose us?

Not to worry! Most of the clients I work with are a bit camera shy at first. I’ll make the process comfortable and easy. I have a set of go-to prompts I suggest to clients, and I’m always open to new ideas or changes.

Can we bring our pet to a photo session?

Yes! Pets are a lovely addition to a photo session. I highly recommend bringing a ‘handler’ to watch them in between photos. It will help put everyone’s minds at ease.

Any additional questions? I would be happy to answer!
